Twelve churches and pastors from six different denominations in the Roan Mountain community, including one church in Avery County, N.C., will come together for a community revival April 3-16 at the Roan Mountain Free Holiness Church.
“This is the second year for the community-wide event. Last year there was such a unity and a spirit of love that our churches decided to make the meetings an annual event,” said Patricia Julian, wife of the Rev. Don Julian, Pastor of Roan Mountain Free Holiness Church.
“Baptists, Presbyterians, Free Will Baptists, Methodists, Seventh-day Adventists, Christian Churches and non-denominational Free Holiness congregations will come together in worship and service to unite Christians in the community,” said Julian. “Our pastors have been meeting and praying together since October of 2014 to build a community of Christian believers. Their goal has been to lay aside denominational differences and focus on the common beliefs that Christians have to unite us as the body of Christ in our community.
“It is needed, especially when there is so much strife and discord in the world. It has been refreshing to see Christians in our community unite, attend other churches and support Christian causes that bring unity to the Christ’s church,” Julian added.
The churches will participate in a prayer walk at 3 p.m. April 2. The prayer walk will begin at Magill Presbyterian Church, continue down Highway 143 through Roan Mountain, ending at Roan Mountain Free Holiness Church, where a banner will be hung that reads “Let Your Light Shine,” the theme of this year’s revival.
Beginning April 3, each participating pastor will peach and a different participating church group will present the special music at the services, which will be held daily. The two-week event will end with a praise and worship service and fellowship dinner in the fellowship hall at Roan Mountain Free Holiness Church.
Participating churches include Burbank Free Will Baptist, Evergreen Free Will Baptist, Harmony Free Will Baptist, St. John Free Will Baptist, Morgan Branch Free Will Baptist, Blevins Chapel Baptist, Little Mountain Baptist, Mt. Pleasant Baptist of Elk Park, N.C., Roan Park Baptist, Magill Presbyterian, Roan Mountain United Methodist, Roan Mountain Free Holiness and Roan Mountain Seventh-day Adventist.
