BRISTOL — Tennessee State Representative Jon Lundberg (R) announced Friday he will run for the state’s District 4 senate seat, which is being vacated by Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey (R). Earlier this week, Ramsey announced plans to retire from the Tennessee General Assembly following more than two decades of service.
Lundberg currently represents the first legislative district in the Tennessee House of Representatives, which includes the cities of Bristol and Kingsport, and is preparing to conclude his fifJonth term.
Tennessee Senate District 4 encompasses Johnson and Sullivan counties, as well as a portion of Carter County.
On Friday, Lundberg turned in his paperwork to qualify as a candidate for the Senate 4th District seat in all three counties.
“I’m truly honored to run for the District 4 senate seat and have an opportunity to continue to represent the outstanding people of Northeast Tennessee,” Lundberg says. “Serving the first legislative district for the past decade has been a gratifying and rewarding experience, and I’m confident we have moved the needle in a positive direction for our region.”
In his current legislative role, Lundberg serves as chairman of the Civil Justice Committee, and is a member of the Civil Justice subcommittee, Insurance and Banking Committee, Calendar and Rules Committee, and Rules Committee. He also serves on the Governor’s Council for Armed Services.
Lundberg is a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council, National Council of State Legislatures, Council of State Governments, and the National Council of Insurance Legislators.
Ramsey, who was elected to the state senate in 1996, was elected senate speaker and lieutenant governor in 2007. He was the first GOP senate speaker in Tennessee in 140 years and the first from Sullivan County in more than a century.
“It’s extremely humbling to know that you are vying for a spot that has been occupied by such a well-respected and highly accomplished individual,” Lundberg says. “Ron Ramsey was a recognized figure in the Tennessee General Assembly long before he was elected senate speaker and lieutenant governor. Since the early 90s, when he began his legislative career as a state representative, Ron has had an indelible, positive impact on our state and the Northeast Tennessee region.”
In addition to his legislative responsibilities, Lundberg is president of The Corporate Image, Inc., an integrated public relations and marketing firm headquartered in Bristol. He is also president of Corporate Marketing, the agency’s award-winning marketing and advertising division.
His community involvement is extensive and includes service on many boards, including Highlands Bankshares, Inc., Highlands Union Bank, Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency, Rocky Mount Living History Museum, Thomas Green Lecture Series, Tri-Cities Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and Symphony of the Mountains. He has also been a member of the advisory board for the Neff Center for Science & Technology, Bristol Chamber of Commerce, Bristol Rotary Club, Tusculum College President’s Advisory Board, and King College President’s Roundtable. Lundberg is also a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner.
A captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve, Lundberg is designated as public affairs officer and is currently assigned to the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In this role, he is involved in intelligence briefings and provides support to the National Military Command Center, crisis management teams, The Office of the Secretary of Defense, COCOMs and interagency partners.
He has served at the Pentagon for the secretary of defense and has been a commanding officer (CO) more often than any other public affairs officer. He has been CO on seven occasions, leading units in Washington, D.C.; Norfolk, Virginia; Jacksonville, Florida; Dallas, Texas; and Millington, Tennessee.
