Cyclones take big win over Unicoi Co. while Lady Cyclones shut out by Gate City

Coach Ryan Presnell’s Elizabethton Cyclones continued to show its early-season resilience by taking down another team at the top rung of the Three Rivers Conference ladder as the Cyclones earned a one-run win over perennial power Unicoi Co., 6-5.
The Cyclones big inning came in the top of the sixth inning when they would plate five runs to take a 6-4 lead at that point. Big hits came off the bat of Ethan Eggleston and Michael Robinson for Elizabethton. Bo Pless added a base-clearing double which played out big in the win.
Elijah Andrews gave a big outing for ‘Betsy going five innings in a no-decision. Junior Brodie Adams came in relief in the sixth to pick up the win for the Cyclones (2-0).
Unicoi Co. plated a single run in the bottom of the seventh to narrow the gap to the one-run decision.
Elizabethton will play Knox Fulton on Friday at Morristown West at 7 pm.

Ken Hardin’s Lady Cyclones took it on the chin from the Lady Devils of Gate City who took a 6-0 final against the home standing Lady Cyclones.
Elizabethton punched only one hit in the contest as Maci West accounted for the base knock. The Lady Cyclones added a couple of walks plus a hit batsman but that was all ‘Betsy could muster.
Gate City broke the game open in the fourth as they would record four runs off starting pitcher Lauren Brickey (0-1) who absorbed the loss.
Kelli Cunningham relieved Brickey and the Lady Blue Devils collected a pair of runs off the reliever.
The Lady Cyclones (1-1) travel to Unicoi Co. for a 5 pm showdown today on Devil Diamond in Erwin.
