Two Carter County men faces multiple charges after police executing a search warrant on a home say they found multiple weapons, drugs and a marijuana growing operation.
Officers of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office arrested Odell Cable, 64, of Elizabethton, and Scott Short, 45, of the Siam community, and charged both men with unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, maintaining a dwelling where illegal drugs are manufactured or sold, manufacture of Schedule VI. Officers additionally charged Short with simple possession of Schedule II drugs and possession of Schedule II drugs for resale.
On Friday, officers with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office along with members of the department’s Criminal Investigations Division served a search warrant at a home located on House of Prayer Road in the Siam Community, Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford said. The search warrant was part of an investigation into reports that individuals residing there allegedly had weapons, drugs an a marijuana growing operation inside the home, Lunceford added.
“Upon entering the dwelling, officers observed a large cache of weapons including an AR-15 pistol, rifles, shotguns and several handguns,” Lunceford said. “While conducting the search, deputies located an indoor marijuana grow consisting of over a dozen plants. Also found were various forms of THC wax, morphine sulfate and methadone pills.”
Two men inside the home, later identified as Cable and Short, were taken into custody at the scene. Lunceford said officers recovered a large amount of cash, totaling $6,598, from Short.
Both Short and Cable are convicted felons, Lunceford said.
The two men appeared in Carter County General Sessions Court on Monday where they were arraigned on the charges against them.
Judge Keith Bowers reduced Short’s bond from $70,000 to a $25,000 corporate bond and scheduled him to return to court on April 12. Bowers reduced Cable’s bond from $20,000 to a $10,000 corporate bond and scheduled him to return to court on April 12 as well.
