A Roan Mountain man faces multiple charges after police say he crashed a car into a creek bed while intoxicated and left the scene of an accident without notifying authorities.
Officers of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department arrested Mark Isaacs, 41, 162 Murph Potter Lane, Roan Mountain, and charged him with second offense driving under the influence, driving on a revoked license, violation of financial responsibility and failure to give immediate notice of an accident.
Around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to 162 Murph Potter Lane in reference to a welfare check and information on an accident that had occurred on Bear Branch Road, also located in Roan Mountain.
“After arriving on scene, I spoke to Dorothy Lowery and asked her if she was OK and knew of any information about a wreck that occurred on Bear Branch Road,” CCSO Deputy Justin Covington said.
Lowery told officers that she was fine, but said Isaacs had taken her car without permission around 5 p.m. and she had been trying to contact him.
“At around 6:30 p.m., Mr. Isaacs arrived at the home and told her that he had wrecked her vehicle on Bear Branch Road,” Covington said. “When I spoke to Mr. Isaacs, I could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him and he had slurred speech.”
Covington said Isaacs told him he had wrecked Lowery’s car and he had consumed several alcoholic beverages throughout the day.
“It was confirmed by Deputy Johnathan Simerly that Ms. Lowery’s vehicle was wrecked on Bear Branch Road and left on the side of the road on its top in a creek bed,” Covington said.
Covington arrested Isaacs and transported him to the Carter County Detention Center, where Isaacs remains held without bond. Isaacs is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court today for arraignment.
