L.D. Fair

L.D. Fair, 84, of Elizabethton, went to meet his Lord and Savior, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease, on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. He was the son of the late Dave and Annie Hampton Fair and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Danny Fair and David Fair; four sisters, Margaret Greene, Helen James, Eulie Carden and Edith Pierce; and four brothers, Jarvis Fair, Clarence Fair, Luther Fair and Hubert Fair.
Mr. Fair was a member of the Elizabethton Church of Christ for 63 years, serving in the capacity of Elder for 44 of those years. He retired from the Elizabethton Electric System with 44 years of service.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Peggy Merryman Fair, of the home; two sons, Dale Fair and his wife, Cindy, Elizabethton, and Darrell Fair and his wife, Maria, of Florida; two brothers, Milt Fair, Elizabethton, and Winfred Fair, Hampton, Va.; 11 grandchildren, Becky Fair and Amber Fair, both of Greensboro, N.C., Cody Fair, Elizabethton, Julie Harris and her husband, Jason, Elizabethton, Justin Fair, Washington DC, Josh Fair and his wife, Lara, Elizabethton, Nick Fair and Hannah Fair, both of Johnson City, Bethany Fair, Boston, Mass., Brandon Fair, Columbus, Ohio, and Breanna Fair, of Florida; four great-grandchildren, Kate Harris, Ava Harris, Cooper Fair and Hudson Fair, all of Elizabethton; and two daughters-in-law, Kathy Fair, Elizabethton, and Maggie Fair, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The service to honor the life of Mr. Fair will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 30, at the Elizabethton Church of Christ, 137 East C Street, with Mr. Roby Ellis, minister, and Mr. Dennis Pierce, associate minister, officiating. There will be congregational singing. The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, and at the home at other times. Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of Elizabethton Church of Christ and his fellow employees at the Elizabethton Electric System.
