Woman charged with first degree murder of her father, former Carter Co. constable

Officers are investigating the fatal shooting of former Carter County Constable Kenneth Younce at his home on McKeehan Ridge Road.


Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford confirmed former Carter County Constable Kenneth Younce was shot and killed Wednesday at his home on McKeehan Ridge Road.
The Sheriff’s Office received the call just after 3:30 p.m. reporting shots had been fired at the home.
Lunceford said Younce’s daughter Sonya E. Babb, 54, shot him in the chest with a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol just inside his front door.
Younce’s wife and another daughter took the gun from Babb, according to Lunceford, and placed it under the porch until officers arrived on scene.
Babb was taken into custody and is currently at Carter County Detention Center, where she has been charged with first degree murder. She is being held on $250,000 bond
Investigation is ongoing.
According to Lunceford, Younce was a Reserve Deputy in 1984-5 when Lunceford began with the CCSO.
