One dead after car slides off 300-foot embankment in snow

One person died in a motor vehicle crash on Wednesday night after police say the vehicle slid off a 300-foot embankment off of Dye Leaf Road in the Poga community.
Carter County 911 dispatchers sent emergency responders to the scene after the survivor reported the wreck. According to According to 911 dispatchers, the wreck took place around 10 p.m. Wednesday, but the survivor was not able to call in to report the accident until Thursday morning.
Neither the name of the deceased nor the name of the surviving passenger has been released at this time. There is no information available on what injuries, if any, the surviving passenger may have suffered.
The Carter County Rescue Squad and Elk Mills Volunteer Fire Department arrived at the scene not long after 9 a.m. on Thursday morning and began attempting to retrieve the body and the vehicle. They were joined by officers from the Carter County Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Highway Patrol. By Noon, emergency crews had not recovered the car.
“We’re having a lot of difficulty because of the snow and location below the embankment,” said Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford.
