Gladys A. Street, 88, of Roan Mountain, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Rollins and Blanche Hughes Arwood.
Mrs. Street was a graduate of Cloudland High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Grays Chapel Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest “Buster” Street; a daughter, Connie Street Gouge; a step-son, Jimmy Street; and two brothers, Bill and James Arwood.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Luther and Geraldine Arwood, Elizabethton; two grandsons, Clinton and Cole Gouge; her son-in-law, Eugene Gouge, Roan Mountain; a sister-in-law, Willie Holtsclaw, Roan Mountain; four nieces, Terri Hughes, Angie Tribble, Peggy McMahan and Jeanette Street; and a nephew, Steve Arwood. Several cousins also survive.
Funeral services for Gladys A. Street will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 7, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Martin Christian officiating. Interment will follow in the Dyer Cemetery, Cove Creek Community, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Clinton Gouge, Eugene Gouge, Cole Gouge, Josh Hughes, James Arwood, Steve Dyer and Colby Guinn. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Arwood, Roy Street, Jim Tribble, Rocky Hughes and Wayne Holtsclaw. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.
