An Elizabethton man faces multiple charges after police say he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home and stole two televisions and a blu-ray player.
Officers of the Elizabethton Police Department arrested Jimmy Dean Moffitt, 35, of 1284 Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton, on Dec. 26 and charged him with aggravated burglary, theft of property and violation of an order of protection.
Shortly after midnight on Christmas morning, officers were dispatched to meet with a woman in the parking lot of a city church regarding harassment. When officers arrived, the woman told them her ex-boyfriend, who she identified as Moffitt, had stolen two flat screen televisions and a blu-ray player from her apartment on G Street.
The woman told officers she has an order of protection against Moffitt, who she said had been texting her for the past several months. The woman said she had been staying with relatives for a few days and when she returned to her apartment she found the items stolen from her home.
Officers also spoke with a witness who said he saw Moffitt removing the items from the woman’s home.
A short time later on Christmas morning, officers received a tip that the missing televisions could be found at a city residence. When officers arrived they spoke to a Mindy Ingram and Anthony Holsclaw, who said they had purchased the two televisions from Moffitt.
Ingram told officers Moffitt said the televisions belonged to his girlfriend and he was selling them in an effort to purchase drugs, EPD Officer Kirk Carrier said.
“Ms. Ingram also advised Mr. Moffitt was attempting to sell a blu-ray player but she was not interested and did not purchase the player,” Carrier added.
Carrier obtained warrants for Moffitt’s arrest and officers located Moffitt the following day and took him into custody.
Moffitt appeared in Carter County General Sessions Court on Tuesday where he was arraigned. Judge Keith Bowers appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent Moffitt, set his bond at $2,500 and bound the case over the grand jury. Moffitt is scheduled to appear in Carter County Criminal Court on March 28.
