Calvin Smith Sr., 50, of Unicoi, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015, from his residence. Calvin was born on January 8, 1965 in Maryland, a son of the late Howard Ray Smith and Pearl Hampton Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David Smith and Wallace Williams, and a half brother, Charles Ernest Smith.
Calvin had worked as a technician for Comcast.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Melissa Smith, of the home; three children, Calvin Ray Smith Jr. and Annabelle Marie Pearl Smith, both of the home, and Kaleigh Dawn Smith, of Jonesborough; two sisters, Rebecka Lynn Stockton, of Erwin, and Roseanna Smith, of Taylorsville, N.C.; a brother, Leonard Smith, of Taylorsville, N.C.; and a step-brother, Timothy Hopson, of Elizabethton.
A service to honor the life of Calvin Smith Sr. will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, December 28, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Willie Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Johnson Barnett Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Michael J. Greenwell, Preston Bennett, John Adams, Brian Barnette, Cory Porter, Adam Hampton and Chuck Oaks. Timothy Hopson will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
