Madge Gervin Drummond Ludwig, 90, of Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 7, 2015, from her residence. Madge was born in Knox County, Tenn., on June 20, 1925 to the late Cecil and Nell Neal Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Ludwig; her daughter, Toni Gervin Watkins; and one grandson, Zane “Skip” Gervin II.
Madge had worked as an LPN and was a member of Brick Christian Church of Watauga.
As a family member or friend, this would be the day we would all dread, the day we would lose the woman we all knew and loved. To many, she was a mother, a sister, a grandmother, a confidant, a friend, a prayer partner and a true model of faith. She was the backbone of our existence. We will miss her smile and her genuine love and warmth. We will miss her hugs, her stories, her singing and her voice. We will miss her lunch dates, her endless phone conversations and her ability to make each of us feel unique and special.
As we mourn our loss, Madge “Mamaw,” would want us to know that her work here is done. Her new mission takes her to a place she always dreamed about. A place where she is socializing, singing, dancing, gardening, laughing and drinking “fresh coffee” to her hearts content. A place where love, laughter and praise are guaranteed. She would want us to celebrate with her because she is at home; she is where she has always wanted to be. This day is bittersweet.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Zane “Brother” Gervin; two grandsons, Adrian Watkins and wife April and their daughter, Ashlyn, and Heath Gervin and wife Leisa and their daughter, Makenzie; two granddaughters, Aimee Gervin Brown and husband Mark and their son, Dominic, and J. Gervin and wife Katie; and her great-grandchildren, Kendra and Shaylin. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will hold a service to honor the life of Madge Gervin Drummond Ludwig at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 12, at Brick Christian Church in Watauga with Pastor Ernie Depew officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. Madge had a wonderful life and thank you to all who made it so!
