Dorothy Campbell Goodwin, 89, of Hampton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 26, 2015, from her residence, following an extended illness. Dorothy was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Melvin Dugger Campbell and Josie Louise “Lou” Glover Campbell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Homer Goodwin; one son, Paul Goodwin; one daughter, Shirley Katherine “Katie” Goodman; one great-grandson, Colton Oakes; nine brothers; and one sister.
Dorothy was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, working in her flowers and teaching Sunday School at Union Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory include one son, Daniel Goodwin and wife Inez of Hampton; one daughter, Linda Guy and husband Jack of Hampton; her grandchildren, Kathy Guy, Sherry Stout, David Goodwin, Jaclyn Lewis, Jeffrey Guy, Jennifer Townsend, Jana Chambers, Holly Nave and Sara Goodwin; her great-grandchildren, Gregory Stout, Meagan Lewis, River Guy, Rudy Guy, Jeffrey Sparkman, Adam Townsend, Emilee Townsend, Kayla Wiseman, Spencer Nave, Lane Shaw and Timber Shaw; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Ida Hinkle; and several brothers-in-law. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate and honor the life of Mrs. Dorothy Campbell Goodwin will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 29, at Union Baptist Church with Mr. Mickey Beal officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Union Baptist Church Choir. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 until 3 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Goodwin, Del Oakes, Jim Shell, Terry Banner, Tony Payne, Mark Shaw, Traye Townsend, Hunter “Bo” Nave and her great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Lewis, L.J. Birchfield, B.J. Taylor, Richard Tester, Smith Davenport Jr., Creed Guy, Larry Goodman, Doug Ranshaw, Herman Tolley and members of Union Baptist Church.
