Gregory Smith

Gregory Smith, 58, 200 N. East Street, Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 19, 2015.
A native of Madison County, W.Va., he was a son of the late Andrew and Dorothy Carpenter Smith. He had lived most of his life in Avery County, N.C., before coming to Elizabethton eight years ago.
Greg was retired from the landscaping business. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith. His hobbies were fishing, antiquing and working with clocks.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a twin brother, Gary Smith.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Becky Smith, Mountain City; two grandchildren, Kynlee Smith and Ethan Stout; two sisters, Patricia Smith, Bristol, and Shirley Hughes and husband Larry, Elizabethton; a niece, Teri Reach; two nephews, Jonathan and Brian Smith; a great-niece, Alexandra Reach; several aunts and uncles; and his very special friends, Judy Odom, Vickie Smith and James and Lois Smithey.
Funeral services for Gregory Smith will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Steve Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Cranberry Cemetery, Elk Park, N.C. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends at Village East Apartments. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence of a sister, Shirley Hughes, Elizabethton.
