Elizabethton High School junior Victoria Oxborrow has rallied her fellow art club members into organizing their very own art show.
Oxborrow, lead student art show organizer, has planned the event for Nov. 20 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the EHS Library and Media Center.
There are no restrictions on the style of art students may choose to submit. Oxborrow wants students to think outside the box.
“I’m accepting whatever kind of art the students want to make,” Oxborrow said. “If they do welding as an art form, then we welcome that. We just don’t want anything inappropriate.”
First, Victoria voiced her desire to organize the event to Dustin Hensley, EHS Library Media Specialist.
“We have many very talented students at EHS and they wanted a platform to show their abilities to the local community,” Hensley said.
Hensley since decided that he would sponsor the event for Oxborrow.

“I told her that if she wanted it to happen then she should organize it and make it a reality,” he said. “A few days later she came back with the proper signatures from the administrators and a date for the show.”
She expected organizing the event to be overwhelming, but she has since realized the importance of her efforts. For her personally, taking the lead on the event has helped her with organizational skills. Still, her main focus is providing her fellow students with a creative outlet.
“I just want people to have a place to display their art to the world,” she said. “Maybe this will help someone decide that one day they will actually become an artist.”
Refreshments will be available at the event, which will be located at 907 Jason Witten Way.
