A 1,667 square foot expansion at Northeast Community Credit Union was approved in Thursday’s Elizabethton Planning Commission meeting, as well as the transfer of Jason’s Auto Sales to a new location.
NECCUU’s expansion will almost double its existing structure to a total of 3,777 square feet. Community Planner Ronda Sawyer said this will provide more office space, a lounge and additional seating for customers.
NECCU is located at 980 Jason Witten Way.
Jason’s Auto Sales, currently located at 2014 W. Elk Ave., will move to 2100 W. Elk Ave. where it will operate out of two metal buildings in addition to a sales lot.
The addition of a ninth storage unit at Cherokee Storage, 408 Cherokee Park Drive, was also approved. The new facility will occupy 6,000 square feet.
Additionally, commissioners discussed, and subsequently approved, the addition of a roof over the exposed portion front porch area of Farmer John’s Produce. The building is in a flood zone and must therefore have four FEMA approved vents installed.
The building was initially an accessory building, installed in August of 2014, and the primary building was torn down in June 2015.
Director of City Planning and Development Jon Hartman said that any addition to commercial property must come before the commission, which should have happened when it was installed, so that stormwater and other officials could approve the structure, parking, drainage and other requirements. Parking requirements are currently satisfied.
The lessees agreed to install the vents, and the commission approved the addition of the roof.
