Richard Wayne O’Quinn Sr., 76, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 15, 2015.
A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Beecher and Hildred McKinnis O’Quinn.
Mr. O’Quinn retired as a custodian at the Carter County Courthouse and served as a constable for the Town of Watauga in 1973. He was a member of the First Church of God, Elizabethton. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and watching airplanes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Gracie Dawn Largent, and a brother, Fred O’Quinn.
Survivors include the love of his life for 50 years, his wife, Effretta Stines O’Quinn, of the home; a son, Richard O’Quinn Jr., Elizabethton; a daughter, Lisa Largent and husband Greg, Roan Mountain; a granddaughter, Amanda Largent, Roan Mountain; brothers, Beecher O’Quinn Jr., Watauga, and James O’Quinn, Elizabethton; and two sisters, Norma Stines and Phyllis Gillespie, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews and special friends, Kathy Estep and Carolyn Thompson, also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Richard Wayne O’Quinn Sr. will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, October 17, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, prior to the funeral service, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 18, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be David Hill, Freddy Rasnick, Doug Rasnick, Steve Roberts, Bill Clawson, Trey Rogers and Terry Lee Estep. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Stines Sr., James O’Quinn, Roy Dean Hill, Danny Stines Jr., Mark Cooper and Terry Estep. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Farrow and the entire staff at Caris Healthcare for the love and care shown to Richard and his family during his illness.
