Betty Bowers

Betty Bowers, 78, of Gray, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, from Franklin Woods Community Hospital. Betty was born on April 2, 1937 in Washington County, Tenn., a daughter of the late Wiley P. Nickels and Margaret Thompson Nickels. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Bowers; a brother, Billy Nickels; and two sisters, Libby Hilton and Justine Ramsey.
Betty had worked at TPI and later retired from MorFlo after 13-1/2 years of service. She was a member of Eastview Freewill Baptist Church but attended the River of Life Church.
Betty loved working in her flowers and spending time with her loving family.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Randy Bennett and Rula and Don Dowell; four sisters, Sylvia Brummett and husband Don, of Bowling Green, Fla., Alice Pierce and husband Danny, of Gray, Tenn., Maxine Ward and husband Jim, of Johnson City, Tenn., and Laura Phillips, of Fayetteville, N.C.; three brothers, Howard Nickels and wife Ruth, of Jonesborough, Tenn., Andrew Nickels, of Bowling Green, Fla., and Michael Nickels and wife Elizabeth, of Johnson City, Tenn.; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Jackie Ramsey, of Gray, Tenn. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive, along with her special friends, Barbara and Kenneth Taylor, of Elizabethton.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Betty Bowers will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 17, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Randy Bennett officiating. Music will be under the direction of Donnie and Teresa Humphreys. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the residence of either daughter, Debbie Bennett in Piney Flats, Tenn., or Rula Dowell in Gray, Tenn., at anytime. The graveside service will follow in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery in the Stoney Creek Community of Elizabethton. Pallbearers will be Billy Joe Williams, Ray Allen Williams, Elmer Byrd, Kenneth Taylor and Chad Dowell. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the 3rd Floor ICU Staff of Franklin Woods Community Hospital and to Mountain States Hospice for the love and care shown to Betty and her family, during her illness.
