Tennie Mercer

Mrs. Tennie Mercer, 86, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015, at her residence. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Liddie Carver Morton.
Mrs. Mercer had been employed as a greeter at Walmart. She was a member of Roan Street Freewill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Mercer loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the vacations they would take together. She also enjoyed making blankets and quilts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Asa Mercer; a son, David Mercer; a grandson, Ralph Mercer; and three brothers, Vester “Buck” Morton, Robert Morton and Samuel Morton.
Survivors include three sons, Gary Mercer and wife Cathy, Charlotte, N.C., Garrel Mercer and wife Kathy, Ridge, Md., and Ralph Mercer, Conover, N.C.; three daughters, Linda Hyder, Elizabethton, Tenn., Helen Shell, Hickory, N.C., and Ellen Krump, Claremont, N.C.; three sisters, Naomi Leflour, Wilma Braswell and Mary Morton, all of Elizabethton, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Tennie Mercer will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 11, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services. Music will be under the direction of D.B.H.S. The Reflection Girls. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until 1 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service in the Stevens Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jack Hyder, Dusty Mercer, Donnie Martin, Davie Martin, Jimmy Braymer, Austin Krump and James Mercer. Honorary pallbearers will be Misty Mercer, Brandy Hyder, Tennie Mercer, Jamie Mercer, Helen Elizabeth “Beth” Martin, Chrissy Roy and Katie Knott. The family would like to give a special thanks to Kelly Pitts, Penny Arwood, Debbie Morton and Kimberly Fleenor.
