Shelby Jean Miller

Shelby Jean Miller, 72, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord following an extended illness, on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at her home. She was a daughter of the late Eugene R. and Estella Ann Hodges Cardwell and was born in Washington County, Tenn., but had lived in Carter County most of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Harold Miller Sr.; a brother, Jesse Cardwell; a half sister, Wanneth Arney; and a half brother, Jarvis Dean Cardwell.
Mrs. Miller was a former employee of Beaunit Corporation and a homemaker. She enjoyed making crafts and cooking for her family. She was of the Baptist faith.
Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Lisa Miller McKinney and her husband, Greg, Elizabethton; three sons, Bobby Miller Jr. and his wife, Melanie, Elizabethton, Dave Miller and his wife, Dulci, Bluff City, and Michael Miller and his wife, Angela, Elizabethton; a brother, Lonnie Cardwell, Elizabethton; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Miller will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, October 5, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. Music will be under the direction of Scott Reynolds, organist, and her daughter-in-law, Angela Miller, soloist. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 6, in the Bradley Cemetery in Johnson County. Active pallbearers will be selected from her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan McKinney, Greg McKinney, Hunter Miller and her brother, Lonnie Cardwell. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Janet Garst, her caregiver, and Melly Eldridge, her caregiver with Amedysis Hospice, for the love and support shown to Mrs. Miller and to the family during her illness.
