Anna Lou Heaton

Anna Lou Heaton, 86, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. She was a daughter of the late Walter Keener Smith and Amanda Lewis Smith and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Heaton (December 1998), and by six brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Heaton was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed quilting and was known to have made many quilts throughout her life.
Survivors include three daughters, Helen Hampton and husband W.O., Roan Mountain, Joan Roark and husband Larry, Roan Mountain, and Marie Miller and husband Ken, Canton, Ohio; two sons, David Heaton and wife Sandra, Elizabethton, and Jerry Heaton, Elizabethton; seven grandchildren, Kenny Miller and wife Sara, of Ohio, Amanda Miller, of Ohio, Josh Heaton and wife Andrea, Morristown, Tara Heaton Smith and husband Daniel, Butler, Kris Roark, Roan Mountain, Kim Buchanan and husband Tim, Newland, N.C., and Jessica Heaton, Gray; six great-grandchildren, Brook, Cody, Isabella, Gavin, Sofie and Kadance; two sisters, Elizabeth Strickland and Betty Winters, both of Roan Mountain; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Heaton will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Reverend Geren Street and Reverend Dennis Wilson officiating. Music will be under the direction of a daughter-in-law, Sandra Heaton. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow the funeral service at Johnson Roanview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Heaton’s friends and neighbors. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jan Tillman for all of the love and care shown to Mrs. Heaton.
