Planning Commission strikes subdivision lot size requirement

Members of the Elizabethton Regional Planning Commission voted to remove language regarding subdivision lot sizes from regulations Thursday.
There is no longer a requirement for Elizabethton subdivision lots less than 185 feet in width to have a depth of three times the width.
City Planner Ronda Sawyer explained why the regulation no longer applies today.
“We’re just updating,” Sawyer said.
In some situations, Director of Planning and Economic Development Jon Hartman said the regulation has caused a few roadblocks in the past.
“It’s a very rare occurrence,” he said. “It’s not as applicable in urban areas as it is in rural areas.”
A public hearing was held prior to the vote.
A special-called meeting was also set for Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. to discuss how to resolve an issue on Sycamore Drive.
