Georgia English Godbey

Georgia English Godbey, 93, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, from Cannon Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness. Georgia was born on May 12, 1922 on Roaring Creek in Avery County, N.C., a daughter of the late Jess and Mary Beam English. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Godbey; two sisters, Ellen Seachrist and Belle Turner; eight brothers, Clarence and Gerelle English, Claude and Zulene English, Stewart and Opal English, Ford and Sue English, Cecil and Myrtle English, Jack English, Junior and Lilly English and Wade and Loretta English.
Georgia worked in cotton mills in her early life and later became a cook, working in many restaurants during her lifetime. She was a member of Coolemee Church of God in Coolemee, N.C.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Barbara English, of Spruce Pine, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday, July 26, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain. Friends will also be welcome at the home of Randy and Gail English, located at 248 Burbank Road, Roan Mountain, Tenn., at anytime. A committal and entombment service to honor the life of Mrs. Georgia English Godbey will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 27, in the Mausoleum at Rowan Memorial Park, 4125 Franklin Comm Center Road, Salisbury, N.C. 28144 with Rev. Randy English officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:20 p.m. Monday. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center and to the staff of the Cranberry House for the love and care shown to Georgia during her illness.
