Ginny Wright was recently named the chairwoman for the Elizabethton Rotary Club.
“The Rotary Club is in great shape,” she said. “I just hope to continue our legacy of service to the community.”
Wright plans to find ways to help drive up membership.
“The more people we have in Rotary the more great work we can do,” Wright said.
Wright was named the director of the Elizabethton/Carter County Boys and Girls Club two years ago.
“I was working with Boys and Girls Clubs in Middle Tennessee,” she said. “I was in charge of the Murfreesboro club in Rutherford County.”
While the two roles are separate, Wright said the Rotary motto translates between the two organizations.
“The motto is ‘Service above self,’” she said. “We are a community organization and dedicated to building a better community. There are some parallels, but overall the two roles are very different.”
Wright was also involved in Rotary while working in Murfreesboro.
“Rotary helped me get to know people in the community because I’m still relatively new,” she said. “Joining helped me get anchored in the community.”
Wright has been studying the club’s service schedule.
“Our golf tournament will be in September,” she said. “All the money from that tournament will go back out into the community. Right now we are in the middle of handing out checks to community organizations like United Way and the Boy Scouts.”
Wright is also looking forward to leading campaigns that will generate money for scholarships.
“We do scholarships with the Tennessee Technology Center,” she said. “We also have a scholarship program with Northeast State and East Tennessee State University as well.”
Overall, Wright is looking forward to helping the club continue to grow.
“We’re looking forward to growing out bean dinner as well,” she said. “We’re looking at doing more hands on service projects as well.”
Wright invites all to join the club. For more information, contact her at gwright@bgcecc.com or 543-2946.
