67 seniors to graduate from Unaka High

Unaka High School will hold a graduation ceremony for the Class of 2015 at 10 a.m. Saturday in the school’s gymnasium.
UHS Principal Betsy Oliver praised the graduating seniors.
“They are a very dedicated and hardworking class,” she said. “For many of them ,I was their second-grade teacher, so I’ve got to see them grow up and mature.”
“I think every one of these kids will succeed in what they want to do,” she said. “It is a fantastic group of students.”
Sixty-seven seniors will graduate from Unaka this year.
Valedictorians for the Class of 2015 are Brittnee Nave, Logan Odom, Joe Oliver, Ashley Verran and Jonathan Wright, all of whom will graduate with a 4.0 grade point average. The salutatorian for the Class of 2015 is Kayla Carrier.
Those six students also make up the Top 10 Percent of the graduating class.
Among the graduating class, several of the seniors earned scholarships and other recognitions for their achievements.
Oliver was named as an East Tennessee State University Roan Scholar.
The Elizabethton Carter County Chamber of Commerce named three of the seniors — Oliver, Verran and Brandon Pierce — Tennessee Scholars. To receive the honor, the students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, a 95 percent attendance rate over all four years of high school, have at least 80 hours of documented volunteer service and take at least one dual-enrollment class.
