Almost nine months after ground was broken on the project, Elizabethton’s first assisted living facility will celebrate its grand opening.
Sycamore Springs Senior Living Community will have a grand opening 2-5 p.m. Sunday, with a ribbon cutting at 2:30. Sycamore Springs is on West Elk Avenue beside the Medical Care office complex
The $6 million assisted living facility is a 35,000-square-foot facility with 30 living suites and a 16-unit memory care wing, administrator Rhonda Mitchell said.
“We are very excited that we are preparing to celebrate the grand opening,” she said.
A majority of the units available in the facility already have been rented, Mitchell said.
“Very few apartments are still available,” she said. “We have been taking deposits for many months, and the residents are excited about being able to move in.”
Residents may be able to move in to Sycamore Springs as soon as June, Mitchell said.
The facility is part of the Ocoee Foundation, which also includes Hermitage Health and Rehab Center, Hillview Health and Rehab Center and Four Oaks Health Center.
Bringing the assisted living facility to Elizabethton was a 4 1/2-year process, John Seehan, president of the Ocoee Foundation said at the groundbreaking.
“We knew the project could only complement the existing services that we already have in the county,” Sheehan said.
The location for the assisted living facility was selected due to its proximity to other services, including medical offices, retail shops and restaurants.
“This location makes sense,” Sheehan said. “This will be the nicest assisted living facility east of Knoxville.”
The facility will have many amenities on site. Sycamore Springs will offer access to staff 24 hours a day; assistance with bathing, grooming and dressing, regular health checks, supervision of medications, housekeeping and linen services.
Other amenities will include a beauty and barber shop, spacious apartments, private bathrooms, country kitchens, two living rooms, large family rooms, scenic porches, a courtyard with grill, a wellness center, a library, a sundeck, an activity room, a dining room and a bus and van for transportation.
State Reps. Timothy Hill and John Holsclaw and Carter County Mayor Leon Humphrey will speak during the grand opening celebrations. Refreshments and live music also are planned.
