Shelter to hold adoption drive

The Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter hopes to do a little “spring cleaning” and find the pets in the shelter permanent homes this Saturday.
The shelter, along with radio station WXBQ and Advanced Call Center Technology, is hosting a Spring Cleaning Adoption Drive Saturday from 8-11 a.m. at the shelter.
“We hope we can clean the shelter out and find every available pet a home,” shelter Director April Jones said. “Our goal is to adopt all of the pets in one day.”
The adoption event was organized by a shelter volunteer’s parent, who works at ACT and wanted to help the shelter adopt more pets, Jones said.
“We appreciate the support and the help they wanted to give to the shelter,” Jones said. “We are hoping the adoption drive will be a success and we will have an empty shelter when it is over.”
Pets that available for adoption include the following:
– Thor, a 2-year-old neutered beagle mix;
– Bud, a 7-year-old male Rottweiler mix;
– Moxie, an adult female terrier mix;
– Zoey, a spayed young-adult Labrador retriever mix;
– Burt, a neutered heeler mix;
– Scruffy, a 1-year-old terrier mix;
– Chopper, a neutered Husky mix;
– Cornbread, a 2-year-old neutered small mixed breed;
– Ridge, a neutered male shorthair cat;
– Sabrina, an adult spayed tabby;
– Helmet Head, a 3-year-old shorthair; and
– Lyra, a spayed female shorthair.
Other pets are at the shelter and will be available for adoption during the drive, Jones said.
As a special promotion, the $10 adoption fee will be waived during the drive. This means pets will be available for $10 if they have already been spayed or neutered, and $45 if the have not, Jones said.
In addition to the adoption drive, supplies for the animal shelter will be collected during the event. Needed supplies include dog and cat food in both the dry and canned varieties, equine pine pellets, leashes, blankets, toys, cleaning supplies and office supplies.
