With fewer than three months remaining in the campaign year, the Elizabethton/Carter County United Way is less than halfway to the goal for the 2015 campaign.
United Way Director Cheri Tinney said the agency has currently collected around 43 percent of the $160,000 campaign goal.
“We have never been this low before at this point in the campaign,” Tinney said. “We are working hard to get out there and collect the rest of these contributions.”
Tinney said contributions made to neighboring United Ways and designated to Carter County will be coming in to the agency, but since those funds have not been received they cannot be counted. When those pledged funds are received, the United Way will be more than halfway to their goal.
Tinney said she is worried about what would happen to the agencies that depend on the United Way for portions of their funding during the year if the 2015 campaign goal was not met.
Agencies for the 2015 campaign are Adult Day Services, American Red Cross, Assistance and Resource Ministries, Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton, Personal Support Service, Contact Ministries, Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center, Sequoyah Council Boy Scouts and the Neighborhood Service Center.
“My concern is for the agencies in the community that rely on the United Way funding to help all of their clients,” she said. “There are some that need this money to be able to do all they do for the community.”
Tinney said in-kind donations for the United Way would also be accepted. She said the agency has no budget for administrative needs, beyond the director’s salary and that 90% percent of funds coming into the agency go directly back to the nine agencies supported by the United Way.
