Joanne Ruth Bodwell Holcomb

Joanne Ruth Bodwell Holcomb, 76, of Hampton, passed away Monday, December 15, 2014, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.
A native of Evergreen Park, Ill., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Robbins Bodwell. She had lived in Carter County for the past 21 years.
Joanne received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Ill. She was a former elementary school teacher in Illinois for a number of years. In the last years, she was a homemaker.
Prior to moving to Tennessee she was an active member of First Christian Church of Chicago, where she was a Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of Hampton Christian Church, where she had taught the Primary Class for several years.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Bobby Joe Holcomb; two children, Roy Holcomb, Johnson City, and Nancy Turner and husband Bob, Bristol, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Megan and Caleb Turner; a sister, Lynn Combs and husband Bill, Johnson City; and two nephews, Rick and Randy Combs.
A service to celebrate the life of Joanne Holcomb will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, at the Hampton Christian Church with Mr. Dwayne Calhoun, minister, officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 18, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from the men of Hampton Christian Church. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to her caregivers, Cindy and Kathleen, for the excellent care she received. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hampton Christian Church. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Holcomb to the Hampton Christian Church, 810 Deerfield Lane, Hampton, TN 37658.
