Shirley Jean Verran

Shirley Jean Verran, 76, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2014, at Hillview Health Center.
Mrs. Verran was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Vollie E. and Gladys Peters Carrier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack R. Verran; a brother, William Brooks Carrier; an infant brother, Estel Carrier; and two sisters, Linda Sue Gwaltney and Dorothy Taylor.
Mrs. Verran had worked at Siemans in the Quality Control Department. She was a lifetime member of Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed being a homemaker for her family and cooking.
Survivors include two sons, Jack “Rusty” Verran and wife Debbie, and Tommy Verran and wife Hollie, all of Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Ashley Hope Verran, Matthew Thomas Verran and Ethan Wade Verran; a sister, Kathy Fletcher and husband David, Elizabethton; a brother, Waymon Carrier and wife Doris, Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Lillian Carrier, Elizabethton; and her special friends, Phyllis Chase, Buddie and Geneva Norris, Laura Pierce, Beulah Peters and Nadine Crews.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Shirley Jean Verran will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, December 15, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Roger Haley and Rev. Rusty Verran officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, in the Blevins Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mickey Taylor, Rick Taylor, Travis Carrier, Frankie Fletcher, David Fletcher and Wade Hardin. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Third Floor staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Pine Ridge Health and Rehab Center staff, Hillview Health Center staff and a very special thank you to Mountain States Hospice, for all the love and support given to the family.
