Members of the EHS Choral Department will sing in the Christmas season Sunday during their annual Christmas concert.
The concert is free to the public and will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Elizabethton beginning at 3 p.m.
The concert will feature performances by the complete EHS Chorus, the Advanced Chorus, the Women’s Ensemble and the Men’s Ensemble.
Choral Director Debbie Gouge said the groups have been preparing for the concern since their fall break in October. On Thursday morning, she ran the groups through rehearsals of several songs including “Carol of the Bells”, “Christmas in 3/4 Time” “Favorite Things” and “Tennessee Christmas.”
She said while the concert will feature mainly Christmas music there will be a tribute to the military with the performance of “The Mansions of the Lord” since the concert falls of Pearl Harbor Day.
Gouge said she enjoys the concert as a way to celebrate the hard work the students put in to getting ready for the show.
“This is a chance to celebrate the accomplishments of these kids,” Gouge said. “They are finally out there and they are in their concert dress ready to perform. They are up there and they are doing it. It took a lot of hard work to get there.”
Several songs will be performed during the concert. For Gouge, it was hard to pick a favorite.
“That is like asking someone to pick their favorite child,” she said. “They are all special to me or they wouldn’t be doing them.”
The concert will include performances of “Da Pacem Domine”, “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”, “The Little Drummer Boy”, ”Il Est Ne Le Divin Enfant”, “Still, Still, Still”, “Please Come Home for Christmas” “Carol of the Bells” “Christmas in 3/4 Time” “My Favorite Things” “Tennessee Christmas” and others.
“It is a unique blend of voices up there,” Gouge said. “Hopefully, if people aren’t in the Christmas spirit when they come, then they will be when they leave.”
