Randolph Smith

First SGT Randolph Smith, US Army (Retired), 71, of Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 17, 2014, at his residence.
Mr. Smith was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Edith R. Smith.
Mr. Smith retired from the United States Army, where he obtained the rank of E-8 First Sergeant, served in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service under hostile aerial combat. He served three tours of Vietnam and was shot down on three separate occasions.
He attended Caldwell Springs Baptist Church and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and of the American Legion.
Survivors include his son, Charles Edward Smith, of California. Several cousins also survive.
A memorial service to honor the life of First SGT Randolph Smith, US Army (Retired), will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 4, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Gary Rowe officiating. Military Honors will follow, accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. The inurnment will be conducted at a later date at Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
