Edell R. Hickam

Edell R. Hickam, 89, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, November 14, 2014, at the residence of a daughter, Mary Ann Carver, 908 Walker Street, Elizabethton, with whom she had made her home for the past eight months.
She was a native of Benhams, Va., and a daughter of the late James Luther and Sarah Ellen Green Turner. She had lived a number of years in Elizabethton.
Mrs. Hickam was a retired employee of the Dietary Department of Bristol Regional Hospital. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Hickam, in 1994; three sons, Robert J. Hickam, Perry Hickam and Clarence W. Hickam; and by a brother and two sisters.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Ann Carver, Elizabethton, Betty Lou Owens, Bristol, Va., Evelyn Gourley, Gray, and Sandra Dykes, Sevierville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys Hicks, Kingsport.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hickam will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with her granddaughter, Dr. Laura Johnson, officiating. Interment will be in the Gunnings Cemetery, Blountville, on Wednesday. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
