Virginia “Tootsie” Peters

Virginia “Tootsie” Peters, 72, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014, at her residence after an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Nannie Pearl Forbes Colbaugh. Prior to her illness, Virginia was employed at Unaka High School. She was a member of New Freedom Fellowship. Her hobbies were, canning, sewing, gardening, cooking and going camping. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Louella Colbaugh, and a brother-in-law, Howard Simerly. Survivors include her family that she dearly loved: three children, Juanita and husband Dejuane Sheffield, Dennis and wife Janie Peters and Lorraine Peters, all of Elizabethton; two sisters, Ruby “Pnut” and husband Eugene “Frosty” Bowers and Linda Simerly, all of Elizabethton; five brothers, Kenneth and wife Carolyn Colbaugh, Jessie and wife Brenda Colbaugh, Ray and wife Loretta Colbaugh, Lester and wife Doris Colbaugh and Powell Colbaugh, all of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Rachael Sheffield and fiancé Brent McClain, Vanessa and husband Bill Lambert and Ashley and husband Paul Waters, all of Elizabethton; four great-grandchildren, Jayda McClain, Austin Lambert, Chloe and Ava Waters; and two special friends, Jewel Ward and Linda Fay Peters. Graveside services for Virginia “Tootsie” Peters will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, in the Blevins Cemetery with Rev. Ray Colbaugh and Pastor Dale Ward officiating. Active pallbearers will be Dennis Peters, Dejuane Sheffield, Bill Lambert, Brent McClain, Eugene “Frosty” Bowers, Lloyd Peters, Roger Colbaugh and Craig Campbell. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Greg, Ruby, Pam, Becky and Diane of Mountain States Hospice for the care of our mother.
