A trip to the Carter County Detention Center was likely not part of the birthday plans for an Elizabethton woman and her friends.
Amy Millwood, 19, 112 Sunshine Circle, and Shanequa Silvers, 20, 506 Summitt Ave., were both arrested and charged with underage consumption early Saturday morning by Elizabethton Police Department officers.
According to the arrest report, Millwood had just turned 19; her birthday was listed as Sept. 26, 1995.
EPD Officer James Deese reported that the incident began when he spotted a Nissan Altima traveling 90 mph in a 55 mph zone on Highway 67 at 1:45 a.m. Saturday.
EPD Capt. Anthony Buck wrote that Deese conducted a traffic stop and said an investigation found the driver, Millwood, and passengers all “had been drinking and (were) under age.”
A search of the car found a bottle of cherry vodka in the backseat, and Buck wrote that both Millwood and Silvers smelled of alcohol.
Both were arrested and charged with underage consumption. Millwood was also given a citation on a speeding charge.
The report said a minor in the car was given a summons for underage consumption and simple possession after he was also found to have marijuana in his possession. He was released to his mother.
Millwood and Silvers are scheduled to be in General Sessions Court on Nov. 10.
