Howard G. Otey Sr.

Howard G. Otey Sr., 75, has passed away at home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Abingdon, Va., but moved to Baltimore, Md., where he spent most of his youth, and retired in Elizabethton, Tenn. His heart remained in Baltimore.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was honest and hard-working. He loved ocean-fishing, boxing, “haggling,” FORDS, motorcycle riding, and MONEY.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Otey of Elizabethton, Tenn.; three sons, Howard “Buck” Otey Jr. and wife, Sherry Otey of Bluff City, Roger Otey and wife, Susan Otey of Bristol, and Eddie Otey of Elizabethton; and a daughter, Betty “Wanda” Otey and fiancé, Rodney Henderson of Elizabethton. He left behind two fur-babies, LouLou and Scruffy, and one grand-fur-baby, Zoey, all from Elizabethton.
Surviving grandchildren are Cathy Ritchey and Howard G. Otey III, both from Bluff City, and Dakota Otey from Bristol, and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Chase Ritchey from Bluff City.
He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Samantha Otey of Bristol, and several brothers and sisters from various locations.
He has one surviving brother, Willis Otey of Bristol, and one sister, Mary Hansen, of Eden, N.C., and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank “Special” Friends, Mr. and Mrs. Blevins of Elizabethton, and also Rev. “Brother Steve” Hayden of Silver Springs, Fla., for their love and commitment.
Also, a special THANK YOU to Holly and her wonderful staff at Amedisys Hospice of Elizabethton for their kindness and support, and loving care of Howard.
