A Saturday morning accident report resulted in a driving under the influence charge.
Adam Nicholas Grindstaff, 27, 112 S C Slagle Road, Elizabethton, was charged with driving under the influence and violation of implied consent law by the Carter County Sheriff’s Department.
CCSD Deputy Sarah McWhirter wrote in the arrest report that she and CCSD Lt. Keith Range responded to the accident at the intersection of Old Watauga Road and Charles Smith Road in Watauga and found a red Ford truck on its top in the ditch.
According to McWhirter, Grindstaff smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred. She also said he performed “very poorly” on field sobriety tests.
“Mr. Grindstaff … reported he had three beers and took Suboxone earlier that evening and still had six Suboxone in the truck,” McWhirter wrote.
She said a search of the truck uncovered six-and-a-half Suboxone pills.
Grindstaff arrested on a driving under the influence charge. McWhirter read him the Tennessee Implied Consent Advisement, and Grindstaff reportedly responded he would “take a breath test but not a blood test.” He was then charged with violation of the implied consent law.
