Since 1948, the florists at Betsy Floral in downtown Elizabethton have worked to bring their customers quality floral arrangements at a good value.
Their efforts have been recognized by their customers. In the 2014 Reader’s Choice Awards, readers of the Elizabethton Star voted Betsy Floral Best Florist.
Owner Joanne Vest said the florist is dedicated to treating each customer in the best way possible.
“We want to treat others the way we would want to be treated,” Vest said. “That should be the rule of any business. Customers come to us in times of sorrow or celebration and we want to make them happy. If we are not doing that, then we are not doing our job.”
Betsy Floral offers their customers floral arrangements and gifts for all occasions, ranging from births, birthdays, weddings, funerals, special occasions or the “just because” gift. Orders are custom made to meet the desires of the client.
“I feel like we know what people want,” Vest said. “We work hard to please the customer and go out of our way to make sure they are satisfied.”
Vest said one of her favorite things she makes is the funeral floral arrangements.
“If people can find comfort in something I have made, then that pleases me,” she said.
According to manager Dustin Hawkins, customers back to Betsy Floral because of the value they get with their floral arrangements.
“People say ‘You get more flowers at Betsy,’” Hawkins said. “When we make something, we step back and look at it and think, ‘if I was the customer, would I think this is worth the price?’ If the value is not there, then we add more flowers.”
Vest said she works to make sure that Betsy Floral arrangements have more flowers than greenery, because “that is what customers expect.”
She said they are able to provide that by keeping costs lower by growing most of the flowers themselves. Vest is also owner of Vest’s Greenhouse.
Betsy Floral takes orders from walk-in, call-in and online customers. Hawkins said orders can be submitted online at www.betsyfloralshop.com. Hawkins said customers can customize their orders online and the orders come straight in to the store, which can then be picked up by the customer or delivered.
Betsy Floral is located at 719 East Elk Ave. and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday and Saturday.
