Orr Field in Roan Mountain was the setting for a wet football event Thursday night as the Cloudland Jr. High Highlanders defeated Hampton 52-14.
Hampton won the toss and elected to receive the kickoff. After a strong defensive stand led by Josh Blair, the Bulldogs punted on fourth down. On the ensuing Cloudland possession, quarterback Malachi Benfield connected with Blair on a 33-yard pass. Jordan Coffey ran for 13 yards, then Benfield capped off the Highlander drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. The conversion failed, leaving the score 6-0.
