An inmate already jailed on a first-degree murder charge is facing an additional charge of aggravated assault after he was accused of attacking another inmate.
Anthony Lacy, 18, 162 Townson Road, Roan Mountain, was served with warrants charging him with aggravated assault and vandalism on Sunday stemming from an altercation with another inmate on Friday.
Lacy was already incarcerated on charges of first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, evading arrest, seven counts of theft of property and three counts of burglary in the July 4 Roan Mountain slaying of Danny Vance.
According to the warrant, corrections officer Brandon Stissel was supervising the Alpha block in the Carter County Detention Center on Friday, Aug. 29, when two inmates began to yell there was a fight in a cell.
Upon reaching the cell, Stissel found Lacy standing up and the other inmate “lying on the floor on his back under the bunk in a pool of blood.” The other inmate had what appeared to be a head wound.
Stissel then ordered Lacy to lie on his stomach with his face on the floor, to which he wrote that Lacy complied. Lacy was placed in handcuffs to wait for backup, and he was later transported to another cell block.
Carter County Sheriff’s Department Officer Curtis Sapp arrived and began first aid on the wounded inmate.
On Saturday, CCSD Cpl. Brian McGinnis was searching the cell where the incident occurred after the wounded inmate told officers a sprinkler head had possibly been used as a weapon against him.
“During my search, I noticed extensive digging marks around the bottom vent that goes into the mechanical chase,” McGinnis wrote in the warrant. He continued that the wounded inmate said Lacy had been using the sprinkler head to dig the concrete and thought it was the “only thing” that could have been used against him.
Both Lacy and the wounded inmate had been assigned to the cell for more than a month.
The sprinkler head washer was recovered and placed into evidence.
