Roland E. Parrish, 72, of Piney Flats, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, August 15, 2014, at the James H. Quillen VA Nursing Facility.
Mr. Parrish was born in Gist, Md., to the late Albert and Norma Elizabeth Buckingham Parrish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred, Eva, Jeanetta and Helen, and a brother, Carl Parrish.
Mr. Parrish was a retired semi-truck driver of 46 years and was a member of Martindale Baptist Church for 36 years, where he served as a money counter and at one time, a bookkeeper. He was a United States Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Norma Jean Ellison Parrish, of the home; a son, Dwight Parrish and wife Lisa, Watauga, Tenn.; a granddaughter, Kristin L. Parrish, and a grandson, Stephen T. Parrish, both of Watauga; two sisters, Myrle Slagle and husband Lee, Asheville, N.C., and Doris Cornett and husband Ralph, Spedwell, Tenn.; and two brothers, Albert “Buddy” Parrish and wife Bonnie, Johnson City, and Ralph Parrish and wife Jeanne, Littlestown, Pa. Many nieces and nephews, whom he loved, also survive.
A graveside service to honor the life of Roland E. Parrish will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 17, in the Lyons Cemetery with Rev. Delbert Storie officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 2:15 p.m. Sunday to go in procession. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Martindale Baptist Church, 2406 Old Lewis Road, Johnson City, TN 37601, for the furtherance of the Gospel.
