The votes have been cast and tallied, now they will be certified.
On Monday, Aug. 18, the Carter County Election Commission will hold a special called meeting to certify the results of the Aug. 7 election.
That election was Carter County’s general election but also the state Republican and Democrat primary elections. More than 13,000 Carter Countians — approximately 49 percent of all the county’s registered voters — turned out to the polls to cast their votes in this election.
Administrator of Elections Tracy Harris said once the votes are certified by the commission, the results will be filed with the state coordinator of elections and with the County Clerk’s office.
“The unofficial election results from election night will be audited and all final vote totals will be prepared prior to the certification meeting,” Harris said, adding the meeting is open to the public.
The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. in the conference room next to the election office on the second floor of the Carter County Courthouse.
Anyone seeking additional information on the meeting can call the election office at 542-1822.
