Joseph Almond Greer

Joseph Almond Greer, 91, of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, August 4, 2014, at Hermitage Health Center.
A native of Chariton, Iowa, he was a son of the late Joseph G. and Ida Davenport Greer. He had lived his earlier life in Johnson County before moving to Elizabethton.
Mr. Greer served in the United States Army during World War II, having served in Normandy, Southern France, The Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland and Central Europe. Prior to his retirement, he was a mechanic at Dixie Battery for over 38 years.
Joe was a member of Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Germaine Braswell Greer; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Andree Greer, Lawrenceville, Ga.; his grandchildren, Michael and Alysia; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mr. Greer will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, August 8, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with a VA Chaplain officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12 noon to go to the cemetery. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the entire staff of Hermitage Health Center for the excellent care received.
