Two men were arrested in separate incidents during the early morning hours on Sunday after both men were reportedly found walking by the Elizabethton Police Department while intoxicated.
Rex Risenhoover, 22, 1518 Chestuee Road NE, Cleveland, was arrested by EPD Officer Eric Buck and charged with public intoxication.
Alex Poole, 25, 886 Georgia Circle, Cleveland, was arrested by EPD Officer Dustin Johnson and charged with public intoxication.
According to police reports, Risenhoover was the first of the two men to encounter police.
Buck states in his report that at 2:28 a.m. on Sunday he observed a male subject, later identified as Risenhoover, walking on East F Street in front of the Elizabethton Police Department.
“I noticed the male subject was having an extremely difficult time walking straight,” Buck said in his report. “The male subject then walked into the Police Department parking lot and was still unsteady on his feet.”
Buck said in his report that after watching Risenhoover enter the parking lot he approached him to speak with him and “immediately detected a strong odor of an intoxicating beverage smell about his person.” Risenhoover reported to the officer that he had just left the bar at the Bonnie Kate Cafe and was on his way to find a hotel room according to the report.
“Due to the level of intoxication of (Risenhoover) he was arrested for his safety and the safety of the public at large,” Buck states in his report.
Following his arrest Risenhoover was transported to the Carter County Detention Center.
Ten minutes after police encountered Risenhoover in front of the police department, another officer encountered another man who was also reportedly intoxicated and walking by the Police Department.
Johnson states in his report that at 2:38 a.m. on Sunday he observed a male subject walking across the road in front of the Police Department. Johnson then approached the male, who was later identified as Poole, and observed him looking into a vehicle according to the police report.
“Upon speaking with Mr. Poole he had glossy bloodshot eyes and an odor consistent with the smell of alcohol was emitting from his person,” Johnson said in the report. “Mr. Poole stated he had been at the Bonnie Kate listening to a concert and had consumed at least 12 beers.”
Johnson states in his report that while speaking to Poole he “became disorderly and began cursing loudly” at which time he was arrested and charged with public intoxication for his safety and the safety of the public at large.
Poole was then transported to the Carter County Detention Center.
Both men have since been released from custody on bond.
