The many talents of Carter County will be on display at the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department this weekend.
The event, organized by the Elizabethton Parks and Rec Department and the Carter County Arts Council, showcases the artistic creations of high school students in Carter County. In addition, other local artists were invited to include their works of art as a part of the show.
Parks and Recreation administrative assistant Kelly Kitchens said the show features a great deal of talent from students in the local schools.
“It is a great thing to do to highlight student’s artwork,” Kitchens said. “There is a lot talent in the schools. This is a great idea. The work out there is very impressive. You look at it and realize how old kids are doing it and then you appreciate it even more.”
She said the show had a few spectators during the afternoon Friday but expected the crowd would pick up as people got off from work and had free time over the weekend.
“I expect there will be a lot more come out and appreciate the artwork,” she said. “I think music will be a nice compliment to the art. “
Starting as 6 p.m. today, live entertainment from local artists ranging from bluegrass, old time and others. The musicians include Art Lang and Cathy Ciolac, Dividing Ridge, Thistle Dew, Big Daddy Banjer and the Hurdy Gurdy Girls.
The event started Friday and will continue today and Sunday. Hours today are from 1 to 8 p.m. The Sunday hours are from 1 to 4 p.m.
