VFW Post 2166 and the Post Auxiliary are partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank to hold a food distribution event for veterans and their families in need on Friday, May 9, at 2 p.m.
The event will take place at VFW Post 2166, located at 2001 West Elk Ave. in Elizabethton. Those planning to attend are asked to have space available in their vehicle’s trunk and to pop the trunk upon arrival. Volunteers will load the food boxes directly into the vehicles to ensure a contact-free distribution process in the interest of public health.
In case of inclement weather, the distribution will follow the Elizabethton City Schools schedule. If city schools are closed due to weather, the food distribution will be canceled.
To help Second Harvest prepare an adequate number of food boxes, veterans planning to attend are asked to call Shaun Smith at the Carter County Veterans Service Office at 542-1824 to register.
The event is part of an ongoing effort to support local veterans with essential food resources and community care.
