Ruth Hood, age 96, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, May 1, 2025. She was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., to the late Walter Wade Curtis and Essie Pauline Morrell Curtis. She was a lifelong resident of the Siam community.
She was the beloved wife of the late Andrew J. Hood Jr.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: brother Eugene R. Curtis (2005), brother John W. Curtis (2009), sister Barbara S. Davis (2015) and brother Carroll E. Curtis (2024).
Ruth is lovingly remembered by her surviving nieces and nephews: John (Bud) Curtis, John W. Curtis Jr., Elizabeth (Liz) Curtis, Tish Fuhrmann, Michael C. Curtis, Timothy E. Curtis and Sheila K. Robinson.
Throughout her life, Ruth had a particular fondness for flowers and spent many happy hours tending to her beautiful yard and creating lovely floral arrangements that brightened her home and her church. Through her love of flowers and arrangements, she became a member of the Highlanders Arrangers Club, holding the role of secretary.
She was a devoted lifetime member of Siam Baptist Church, where she touched many young lives as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was also the church librarian and actively involved with the church, including Sunday floral décor and decorating for the annual church homecoming.
Those who knew Ruth were well acquainted with her wonderful cooking of recipes handed down by her mother, including delicious desserts she always enjoyed creating. She will always be remembered for her quick wit and infectious sense of humor, bringing laughter to those around her.
The family would like to acknowledge the incredible caregivers who became like family to her in Ruth’s final years. Their gentle care, unwavering patience and genuine affection made her last chapter one filled with dignity and love. We are eternally grateful to Lois Hylton, Nadine Forbes, Judy Blythe, Amy Stout, Claudia Holloway, Valerie LaPorta, Becki LaVergne, Pat Ingram, Roberta Potter, Betty Ford, Cheri Tyler and Sue Hall.
