Tournament action continued Thursday in area high school baseball, with Happy Valley and Hampton seeing their seasons come to a close following tough losses. Unaka also dropped a close contest but remains alive in the District 1-A tournament.

Johnson County 6, Happy Valley 3
Despite a late push, Happy Valley could not overcome an early deficit and fell to Johnson County, 6-3, in District 1-2A tournament play.

The Longhorns built a 6-0 lead, scoring in every inning except the second, which saw them plate two runs. Defensive miscues proved costly for the Warriors, as six errors led to five unearned runs.

The Warriors had a chance to respond in the fourth inning after three straight singles from Ty Johnson, Parker Williams and Cade Williams, but they left the bases loaded. In the sixth, Lane Parker delivered a two-run single to score Johnson and Williams. Jamie Esterline followed with an RBI single to center but was later caught stealing home.

Drew Blevins reached base in the seventh, but the Warriors were unable to mount a final comeback.

Blevins turned in a strong performance on the mound, allowing just one earned run and striking out six. He also collected two hits at the plate. Parker, Esterline, Matthew Murray and Cade Kendall each added a hit. Happy Valley finishes the 2025 season with a 12-13 record.

South Greene 11, Hampton 0
The Bulldogs saw their season end Thursday after falling to South Greene in a five-inning contest.

South Greene jumped out to an 8-0 lead by the third inning. Hampton loaded the bases in the bottom of the third with singles from Elisha Henson, Bryce Fagan and Cash Royston but failed to score.

Royston pitched 2 2/3 innings and struck out four, while Cade Nelson worked 1 1/3 innings in relief. Hampton finishes its season at 9-13.

North Greene 8, Unaka 5
Unaka outhit North Greene 10-3 but couldn’t find key hits in crucial moments, falling 8-5 in a District 1-A matchup.

The Rangers rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead in the third. However, North Greene answered with five runs in the fifth to build a lead Unaka couldn’t erase.

Bailey Cannon singled in two runs to close the gap, but the comeback stalled there.

Robert Humphrey went 3-for-3 at the plate, while Cannon and Crabtree each added two hits. Unaka will face Cloudland in an elimination game Monday.
