At the Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County, family engagement events are more than just gatherings — they are opportunities for club families and community members to come together and express their creativity. The Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County organized a well-attended crafts fair last Saturday at Crossroads Craftworks in downtown Elizabethton. The April 26 event brought together club families and community members for a day focused on creative expression and artistic activities.

The craft fair featured multiple craft stations set up throughout the venue by our dedicated Boys & Girls Club staff. Attendees participated in various hands-on activities, including decorating shopping bags, creating bookmarks, making colorful suncatchers and personalizing candle jars.

“Our main goal for the craft workshops is to get our club families into a new atmosphere within the community and bring the Boys & Girls Club out into the community. We love being able to collaborate with Tony Oliver, owner of Crossroads Craftworks, and bring these workshops to life in a new space,” said Hayley Ramsey, Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County art practitioner.

On April 30, the juniors who had tirelessly worked at the club car wash to raise funds for a family event were rewarded with a magical family paint night. The evening was a celebration of their hard work and dedication, filled with laughter, creativity and a sense of community. The club kids were overjoyed, their faces lighting up with happiness as they expressed themselves artistically and bonded with their families and friends. This event underscored the importance of community and the incredible impact that collective efforts can have in bringing people together. The shared moments of joy and connection created memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Paint night provided an opportunity for families to come together and express their artistic talents. Tables were set up with canvases, paints and brushes, inviting participants to unleash their creativity. The atmosphere was vibrant, with children and adults alike engaging in the joy of painting, sharing ideas and encouraging each other.

Harlee Whittemore, the tween coordinator, expressed her deep appreciation for the juniors. “I cherish these kids and the time we spend together,” she said, highlighting the bond formed through their collective efforts and shared experiences. Her words underscored the importance of community and the positive impact of collaborative activities.
