Elizabethton, Happy Valley athletes sparkle at Upper Lakes Conference meet

Athletes from across the region gathered at Joe LaPorte Track Facility on the campus of Elizabethton High School Tuesday for the Upper Lakes Conference track and field meet, where 10 teams competed for top honors in a full slate of events.
In the boys’ competition, Happy Valley’s Colby McNabb led the charge in the sprints with a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash and a fifth-place showing in the 200 meters. Elizabethton’s Cooper Chinault claimed fifth in the 400-meter dash, while teammate Jerry Behrmann finished second in the 1,600-meter run.
Happy Valley made a strong showing in the hurdles, with James Cable taking second in both the 110-meter and 300-meter events. Tyler Bailey added a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles to boost the Warriors’ points.
Relay events were closely contested, with Happy Valley taking third in both the 4×100- and 4×200-meter relays, while Elizabethton secured fifth in both races. The Cyclones claimed third in the 4×800-meter relay.
In the field events, McNabb added a fourth-place finish in the long jump for Happy Valley, while Elizabethton’s Colin Miller placed fifth in the triple jump. The pole vault saw Happy Valley’s Bailey take first and Julian Pate third, while Elizabethton’s Colin Pate rounded out the top five.
Elizabethton’s Diesel Russell dominated the throwing events, taking first in both the discus and shot put. Teammate Riley Jones placed fourth in the discus to add to the Cyclones’ scoring.
On the girls’ side, Elizabethton’s sprint duo of Chyanne Everett and Naye Musa stood out. Everett finished second in the 100 meters, first in the 200 and third in the 400. Musa added a third-place finish in both the 100 and 200, contributing valuable points for the Lady Cyclones. Happy Valley’s Kaydence Carroll also placed fifth in the 400-meter dash.
In the mid- and long-distance events, freshman standout Arvella Nave continued her winning ways with victories in the 800 and 1,600 meters. Helen Hackett followed with third in the 1,600 and 3,200, while Jane Hackett placed fifth in the 1,600.
Elizabethton’s Camdyn Garland was active in the hurdles and field events, taking third in the 100-meter hurdles, second in the 300-meter hurdles and placing second in both the long and triple jumps.
Addyson Merryman added a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles for the Lady Cyclones. Happy Valley’s Carroll added another top-five result with third in the triple jump and fifth in the high jump. Josephine Zeoli secured fourth in the long jump.
Elizabethton also delivered in the relays, placing second in the 4×100 and third in the 4×400. Happy Valley came in third in the 4×200 and fifth in the 4×400.
In the throws, Elizabethton athletes swept the top spots. Liahna Nave won the discus, while Ava Rogers took first in the shot put, followed by Jamira Smalls in second and Nave in fourth.
The meet served as a strong showing for both Elizabethton and Happy Valley, who consistently appeared on the podium throughout the evening across multiple disciplines.
